Nellie Foster
Nellie Foster was born in Goldendale, on Aug. 6, 1916, and died in Goldendale at her home on March 5, 2010.
Nellie was one of six children born to John and Nellie (Carratt) Tallman.
Nellie met E.M. “Pokey” Foster when she was about 15 or 16 years old. They married on April 12, 1933, and to this union was born three children, all of whom reside in Goldendale: Margie and her husband, Loren Sharon; Barbara and her husband, Jerry Sherman; Marc and his wife, Jaci.
Nellie worked at various grocery stores in Goldendale until she retired in her seventies. She also worked as a nurse’s aide and at the sawmill during WWII. Nellie was also a member of the women’s Grange and enjoyed working with all the ladies.
The most important parts of Nellie’s life were home and family. She taught her children the value of love, family, and compassion. She could always be found at some new project, maybe working on a doll house, making plans to remodel a room or getting ready to take her family flower picking. She would always be working on some new project with the grandkids. Her family will miss her sparkling eyes.
Nellie is survived by her three children; five grandchildren: Cindy Jones, Philip and Stuart Sherman, Shelly Seward and Jason Foster; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Stultz of Rufus, Ore., and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Goldendale home health and hospice, Goldendale schools or Shriner’s Children’s hospital in Portland.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 13, at Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel in Goldendale with a reception to follow at 921 Foster Road. Visitation is Friday, March 12, at Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
