Glen Edward Brogoitti
Glen Edward Brogoitti, of Lyle, died July 1, 2010.
He was born in Helix, Ore. on Jan. 22, 1928, the son of Seaborn “Seb” Brogoitti and Ada McAlavy. He graduated from Griswold High School in Helix in 1946 where he went on to attend Oregon State University. Glen returned to Helix to be a wheat farmer, start a family, and later was the key to establishing one of the first wind farms in Oregon.
He later married Thelma Richart, until she passed away on Jan 15, 1990. In April of 1990, Glen married Jean Whitten Wilkins. In October of 2005, Glen and Jean moved to Lyle.
A farmer most of his life, Glen was involved in many organizations some including the Oregon Wheat League (president in 1971 and served on several committees), Oregon State ASCS, along with the OSU Alumni Board and foundation Board. Glen loved farming on his wheat farm, was an avid pilot who owned his own planes, enjoyed traveling by RV and relaxing at his boathouse on the Columbia. In his later years, he took pleasure in woodworking, welding, gardening and making things for family members.
Survivors include his wife Jean Brogoitti of Lyle; daughter Kelly Thornburg of Pendleton,Ore.; Robyn Crocker of Centerville; Theodore Lee Wilkins of Goldendale; and John E. Wilkins of Lyle; along with two nephews in LaGrande, Ore.; a niece in Portland, Ore.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Thelma Richart Brogoitti and brother Robert Brogoitti.
Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel handled cremation arrangements. A memorial reception will be held on July 31, at the home of Ted Wilkins, 845 Saxton Bane Rd, in Goldendale at 1 p.m.
