Sherrill "Steve" Halsey Stevens
Sherrill "Steve" Halsey Stevens was born in Centralia, on May 6, 1934 to Lilburn H. and Marguerite (Lemmon) Stevens. He died in The Dalles, Aug. 4, 2010 at the age of 76.
In 1952, he graduated from Clover Park High School in Lakewood, and went on to become a police officer, working for many law enforcement agencies around the state including Wenatchee, Steilacoom and Yelm, where he was police chief. Steve also served in the Army for 19 years of active duty and 24 years in the reserves. He received a degree in both criminal justice and psychology from Central Washington University, and he graduated from the Command and General Staff College while in the military. He retired to Goldendale in 1997.
Steve enjoyed the military and military collectables, history and writing genealogical books. He was a member of the VFW, the MOAA, the ASA, the American Legion, and many other organizations.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Stevens, of Goldendale; sons Marcus Stevens of Tacoma, and Randy Stevens of 29 Palms, Calif.; daughter Mary Stevens of Goldendale and Lynn Farrell of New Castle; brother Kerry Stevens of Riverside, Calif.; sister, Nina George of Thorpe; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28, at Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel in Goldendale.
