Barbara June Moughon
Barbara June Kimes Rakow Moughon, 78, of Houston, died July 17, 2010.
She was born in Clearwater, Neb. on June 2, 1932, to Roy and Hazel Kimes. In 1950, she married Ross R. Rakow and the couple raised two daughters; Lori Moore and Janet Baker, in Goldendale.
Barbara was involved in many of her daughters’ school activities, community activities such as breast cancer awareness/education, and was a lifetime member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She watched over her family, played guitar and sang, created beautiful keepsake embroidery and other crafts. She was a NASCAR fanatic, loved Nebraska football, and will be remembered by her family for her quick wit and sense of humor.
In 1981, she married Tom Moughon of Goldendale. The couple lived in Goldendale, Seattle and various other cities in Washington and Oregon; Shreveport, La.; Findlay, Ohio; finally settling in Houston to be close to her daughter Janet’s family.
Barbara found great joy in caring for the children at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church in Nassau Bay, Texas, where she worked as the nursery coordinator for several years.
Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Tom Moughon; daughters, Lori (and Dennis) Moore, Janet (and Ryne) Baker; stepchildren Stewart (and Tammy) Moughon, Caitlin and Lauren Moughon; grandchildren, Ely, Ashley, Rachel, Kellie, Britney, Mackenzie and Rowan, and four great- grandchildren; sister, Maurine Filsinger; brothers, Dean and Dal Kimes, several nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Roycene Kusik.
A private celebration was held honoring her memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church, 18300 Upper Bay Rd., Houston, TX 77058-4199.
