Three cheers for change
A column by Karen Henslee
Over the last year or longer, the cry for "change" has been ringing from sea to shining sea.
And now we have it. In many areas, government, most notably.
Personally, I've never been a big fan of change. I know a man who thrives on the very idea of change. He thinks it's exciting... the stuff that gets his blood flowing.
Not me... ugh!
I know many women who can't leave their house as-is for more than a day or two.
I never change my furniture around. You could bolt the furniture to the floor. But sometimes, in an effort to change the wear-pattern of the carpet, it just has to be moved.
This week's issue of The Goldendale Sentinel rolls out a number of changes to the design of the newspaper, changes that we hope make the paper easier and more pleasurable to read.
For starters, we've switched the fonts we use for our body copy, and our headlines. We think the new fonts help to create a paper that is easier to read and has a cleaner look.
You will most likely notice that The Sentinel is now being published on slightly narrower paper. The 11-inch-wide page is rapidly becoming the industry standard; the switch allows us to shave some money off our newsprint bill without taking a big bite out of the space available for news and advertising. In addition, we think using less newsprint is good for the environment.
This kind of redesign work, it turns out, really is never-ending: so you will probably notice over the next several weeks more improvements to The Sentinel.
The Sentinel will continue to bring you the best and most comprehensive news and sports coverage, great photos and features.
So stay tuned.
