Let's give a shout to outstanding citizens
A Goldendale Sentinel Editorial
Goldendale sure has a broad range of citizenry.
From an ex-military serviceman who traipsed across the country on foot in search of the perfect place to settle (and finding true love along the way), to a young wheat farmer from Centerville rumored to have over 1,000 cattle hiding out near George, Washington, we are a diverse breed.
We have dedicated firefighters, strong medical professionals, community leaders, artists, business people, educators, law enforcement officers, search and rescue volunteers, emergency responders, and city council members.
Each individual brings his or her own unique style and signature ingredient to the community stew that bubbles here in Goldendale.
And while it is no news that Klickitat County has changed a lot in recent years, (to the dismay of some; the joy of others), one thing has remained the same: this region is built around robust community ties, and people who care about the place they live.
If there was any question as to the degree of that caring, it was answered last Thursday at the Distinguished Citizen's awards. The event, held annually by the Chamber of Commerce and Goldendale Jaycees, drew hoards of people out to salute those in their lives who have made a difference.
Those who attended saw the town come together to honor these people, tell them thank you, and have a laugh with one another.
This week, as we go about our business, let's do the same. Let's tell each other we appreciate the good work.
And to our distinguished citizens, let's give an extra shout: thank you for making Goldendale a great place to live.
