Come to the show!
A Column by Karen Henslee
Whew!
After months and months of meetings and brainstorming, it's finally here.
The first of what will become an annual event, Goldendale's Home & Garden Show.
It was with some hesitation that I became involved in the planning of the event. I don't garden, and I really don't do much "fixing-up". It's enough to keep it clean, let alone make improvements.
But I'm excited about this one.
Birthed from the weekly business meetings last year, where Mike Canon brought donuts each Wednesday morning, business owners and operators sought to shine light on local businesses. A home and garden show made sense, after all we've got scores of contractors and handymen around here, so let's get them in the mix!
We were hesitatingly optimistic. But when the locals didn't jump at the chance, it was opened to other businesses outside of our immediate area. And, as usual, lots of folks, both local and otherwise, waited till the last minute, and within the final weeks, filled all of the event space, and then some. Indoors and out, there's lots to do and see.
This should be a lot of fun!
The Master Gardeners will be presenting workshops on gardening and fruit trees; there's a musical tribute to John Denver, performed by Ted Vigil; painting and deck building workshops, just to name a few. A kids' corner will offer children an opportunity to get going too. And it's free! Who could ask for a better spring day event?
The weekend looks like a good one. If you're itching to get out and start digging, remember, the snow's still on the Simcoes, so just hold out a little longer. Come to the show and smell the roses (and the dirt). Summer's almost here!
