It’s time for “Cops” to start filming here in town

Have you heard? The TV show Cops is going to start shooting episodes right here in town. “Bad boy, bad boy, watcha gonna do? Goldendale police gonna come for you!”
OK, not really, though one suspects a serious invitation to producers might actually produce serious consideration. This thought is based on the news that, once again, the city police department has executed yet another round of dramatic sweeps and arrests through town. Honestly, it’s enough to make a criminal think this town just isn’t worth breaking the law in any more.
Well, it’s not. Frankly, this town isn’t big enough for honest, hard-working people and criminals, too. Guess who’s going to have to go?
What is so striking about the police successes of late is the inescapable message it sends. If your career of choice is making a living by depriving others of their belongings, well-being, security, and health (in the case of meth and drug dealers), the cost of your societal leeching is going to be wondering when the hand of a law enforcement officer is going to land on your shoulder. Make no mistake. It’s going to happen.
We have a truly good police department here, and that’s hardly something any community can easily take for granted. They’re smart, they’re diligent, they’re resourceful, and they’re persistent. In other words, they readily outclass the criminal element here that most distinguishes itself by astonishing stupidity. What’s also interesting is how police are increasingly identifying certain areas of town, such as a particular trailer park, as magnetic draws of criminal activity. Makes things easier for them, one supposes.
