The bats were smoking last week as Goldendale’s girls cranked out 68 hits, including a blast by Kayla Graff that cleared the left-center field fence by several feet against Granger.
Weather conditions were vastly different between Thursday and Saturday double-headers. Wahluke was greeted to a stiff breeze blowing directly into their dugout and 40 degree weather on Thursday.
The Timberwolves played the wind and made their runs with drives to right field against Wahluke. Taylor Gaston picked up the 13-3 win in a five-inning game that had players on the field in sweatshirts and fans huddled behind the backstop under blankets.
Sydney Bloom and Hailey Hudson combined for a no-hitter in the second game, a 16-4 five-inning affair. Hudson and Alex Counts each hit home runs in the first game. Hudson was 5-7, scored five runs and knocked in five in the pair of games. Graff was perfect at 6-6 with six RBIs.
The uniform changed to shorts and cut-off sleeves on Saturday and Goldendale took advantage of a rare east wind. Granger tagged starting pitcher Bloom with four runs in the second inning to lead 5-2. The Timberwolves answered with four runs in the third, tying the game on Ashley Barrett’s single and taking the lead for good on a hit by Bloom.
Counts got things going in the fourth inning with an inside-the-park home-run followed by Graff’s bomb to left-center. It was the first time anyone could recall seeing one knocked out of the park at the field known for its stiff breeze from left on most days.
Goldendale followed up the 9-5 win with a brutal, 28 hit, 19-8 win in game two. Hudson went the distance for Goldendale in a game that saw 14 errors. Jordan Hammett was 5-5, Jessica Binns was 4-4, and Graff was 3-3 at the plate in game two. Counts hit her second home-run of the day as Goldendale evened their SCAC record at 2-2.
The Timberwolves travel to Mabton for a pair of games on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.

A Saturday sweep of Zillah put the Goldendale baseball team one-half game ahead of Naches Valley in the SCAC.
The Timberwolves scored in every inning of the opener, defeating the Leopards 12-2 in six innings. Travis Schuster came through with three RBI to support Nick Dohrman’s complete game victory. The win was Dohrman’s fifth on the season, against no losses.
Schuster went 2-3 in the second game, but it was Aaron Cochran who got the game-winning hit, a double to right field that scored John Bartkowski and Kyle Hamilton. Cochran was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a triple, but the damage was done and Goldendale went on to win 7-4.
A Zillah rally in the fourth inning was cut short when Schuster went high to pull down a relay bullet from Cody Herin for the final out, with a runner stranded at second base.
Austin Ross struck the side out in the sixth and finished a complete game win with nine strike-outs.
The 4-0 Timberwolves were on the road to play 1-2 Highland on Tuesday before the showdown with 3-0 Naches Valley in Goldendale on Saturday at 11 a.m.
