Quarter horse point show in Goldendale

The second leg of the Northwest Foundation Quarter Horse Association season was held in Goldendale last weekend with 36 horses from Oregon and Washington on hand. Scott King on RHR King Stetson, out of North Plains, Ore., took overall high point honors. Gregory was the versatility champion in the novice division.
The super reined cow horse champion was Christine Broussard and her horse Peppyscarboncopycody, from Bend. The award was based on a combination of reined cutting, cow work, reining and key race. Reserve champion was Janet Parker on Double Shot JD, from Issaquah.
Goldendale riders of note were Mary Huber, champion high point in the all-breed division, riding Mama Cass; Michelle Bradley, reserve champion on Pedro San Chex in the open division of versatility; Kristi Siebert, reserve champion high point novice division on Just N Libby, owned by Pam Howard, Chehalis.
Other results: High point open division, reserve champion Patti Hanken on Chex Copper Remedy, Scappoose, Ore.; youth division, champion Danielle Pion from Redmond on Gata Get Busy, owner Michelle Bradley; reserve champion Henessey Sloter on Show Em The Bux from Bend. All breed reserve champion Rosie Fay on Zips Golden Delight, from North Plains.

The NFQHA shows are run by volunteers. Paul Gregg provided working stock for the show. The next show is at Boring, Ore., on Aug. 7-9 and the final, regional championship will be in Goldendale, Sept. 11-13.
Two Wolves first team SCAC west
The Goldendale baseball team placed Aaron Cochran and Cody Herin on the SCAC west all-league first team. Trevor Fields was named to the second team and John Bartkowski was honorable mention.
The team also selected their own awards, naming Cochran the most valuable player. Jaryd Cline received the coaches' award and Tyrell Cronin was most improved player. Justin Garrigus got the nod as best outfielder. Cochran was named best hitter, Fields best pitcher, and Herin best infielder. Team captains this year were Bartkowski and Cochran.
All but Bartkowski, who graduated, should be back next year.
Local golfer shoots for U.S. Junior amateur
Two weeks after missing a trip to the U.S. Open, Zach Wanderscheid made another run for a major tournament, winning the qualifier for the U.S. Jr. Amateur. The Goldendale teen won at Manito in Spokane and will compete at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., July 20-25. Another Washington teen, Cameron Peck, of Olympia, won last year's Jr. Open.
Wednesday, Wanderscheid played in another qualifier in Tumwater for the right to compete at the Jr. World Amateur, which will be in San Diego, July 13-17.
