Chambers wins scholarships at national rodeo

Mason Chambers had a so-so result at the National High School Rodeo in Farmington, N.M. last month, but the trip was sweetened when he was selected for two scholarships.
Chambers earned the right to compete in the championship rodeo by virtue of his fourth place finish in the Washington state championship rodeo. Competing with a torn ACL, suffered in the first rodeo of the year, Chambers was successful in roping and tying his calf in both of his runs, posting times of 18.473 and 16.446. But it was not good enough to get into the short rounds and he finished 38th out of 170 ropers from around the country.
During the week in Farmington, Chambers was interviewed and his application was evaluated for scholarships. He was awarded a $500 from the National High School Rodeo Association and $1,000 from the National High School Rodeo Foundation. He has been a Wrangler All Star for the past two years, placed in the top eight in state events and graduated with a 3.67 gpa. Chambers will attend Walla Walla Community College this fall, where he will continue to compete in rodeo after recovering from ACL surgery.
