25 Years Ago – April 16, 1987

• Enrollment at Goldendale Public Schools has dropped at an alarming rate during the past year. Since February, 67 students have left and attendance is down by over 100 compared to April 1986. Students are leaving the area as their parents are trying to find work due to the closure of the Commonwealth Aluminum Plant.

50 Years Ago – April 12, 1962

• Goldendale School Superintendent Paul Johnson told the Chamber of Commerce Monday that the new Elementary School building is “practically completed.” The building will not be used until fall. Johnson said his main problem now is the high school, “It was built for 320 students; this year we had 330....
