Goldendale library celebrates 100th year; festivities kick off in June

100 Years: Welcome to Goldendale’s Carnegie Library, one of only about 14 in the state of Washington

The Goldendale Community Library will celebrate its 100th birthday this year, and it is not holding out.

The occasion will be a yearlong celebration, starting in June. Their final hurrah will be at the Community Days event in 2013, says Librarian Naomi Fisher.

Back in the late 1800s, a wealthy industrialist, Andrew Carnagie, made it his mission to provide free public access to libraries. The Goldendale Community Library was one of the 44 Carnegie libraries in Washington.

“We are one of the few Carnegie libraries still standing in the state of Washington that is still operating as a library since it opened,” said Fisher.
