Goldendale FFA places fifth at State Ag Mechanics competition

Excelling in Mechanics: Goldendale FFA members traveled to Walla Walla last week to compete in the Washington state Ag Mechanics competition. The group finished in fifth place. Pictured are (Left to right) Tom Washburn, Chen Hites, Will Bowdish, Daniel McElravy and Tim Washburn

Future Farmers of America held the State Ag Mechanics competition in Walla Walla on April 19. Participating members from Goldendale High School were Will Bowdish, Chen Hites, Daniel McElravy, Tim Washburn, and Tom Washburn. The theme for this year was “materials handling systems.” The state contest used water as the material that needed to be handled.

The events held in this contest were a written test which is done by computer and each member had one hour to complete 50 questions. There were also five skills events in which participants have 25 minutes to complete each separate event. These events included Machinery and Equipment systems, which involved evaluating proper air cooled...
