Equestrians claim seven gold medals, all six advance to State

KATHARINA PALME AND PEDRO: Qualified in reining, trail, working rancher, working pairs, obstacle relay, team flags, and sorting.

Katherina Palme never rode a western saddle before coming to Goldendale. Now she is on her way to the State equestrian championships as the regional gold medalist in reining, trail, working rancher and working pairs, all very western styles of riding. Palme, an exchange student from Germany, was no stranger to riding in her home country. It didn’t take her long to pick-up the western style.

Washington’s high school equestrian competition is based on three regional events where riders earn points for State qualification. Palme won the working rancher event at all three regionals and was awarded the gold medal. She is also the gold medalist in trail, winning two of the three events. Her...
