25 years ago- July 2, 1987

• Three times during the last century, fire has reduced the town of Bickleton to ash and cinder. Three times the cry has gone up to “save the tavern!” The Bluebird Inn remains the oldest structure standing in Bickleton and is the granddaddy of taverns throughout the state. The Bluebird Inn, originally known as the Bickleton Pool Hall, was constructed in 1887. The bartender poured the first beer in 1888, a year ahead of The Brick, a tavern in Cle Elum serving by 1889.
