Three accidents on SR14 leave one deceased and three injured


A 69 year old Chemult, Ore. man was killed on SR14, Saturday around 10:46 a.m. Donald R. Anderson was riding his motorcycle east on SR14 through the turns above Wishram when he failed to negotiate a right hand turn and laid his bike down in the on-coming lane. A 2011 Volvo semi-truck with empty trailer collided with Anderson who died at the scene.

There were two more wrecks on SR14 on Saturday, within two minutes and 18 miles of each other. At 6:30 p.m., Jennifer M. Smasne, 39, of Moxie was westbound at mile post 90 when her 2008 Toyota Camry left the road to the northside shoulder, striking the embankment. Both Smasne and an 8-year old female passenger were transported to Mid-Columbia Medical Center with possible neck and back injuries. The accident is still under investigation.

At 6:32 p.m., at mile post 108, a couple miles east of John Day Dam, Jonnie A. Hamman, 53, of Chattaroy was westbound on SR14 when he lost traction on the wet pavement and slid his 2002 Chevy Blazer off the road to the north, colliding with the rocky hillside. The car rotated and struck the rocks again with the left rear and came to rest facing east in the westbound lane. Hamman was transported to KVH with facial lacerations. He was cited for driving with wheels off the roadway.
