Race Central

Andrew Christiansen

Nestled at the bottom of the Maryhill Loops was a small, tent town for much of the past week. The Festival of Speed headquarters were on-site with a large number of vendors and local food wagon. One exhibitor even built a ramp to keep riders and spectators entertained when they weren’t racing. Organizers had plenty of games and boxes upon boxes of skating items to give away, including dozens of sets of wheels and a several expensive boards. There were a number of reports of rattlesnake sightings and one claim that a rider ran over a snake on the course. Aside from Saturday rain, the weather was ideal for qualifying and the race. Competitors, some with families, stayed in Goldendale motels, or camped in Ekone Park in Goldendale or in RVs at campsites.
