KVH receives awards for heart and stroke care

Klickitat Valley Health (KVH) was recently awarded a Level II status as a Cardiac Center and a Level III as a Stroke Center. KVH was also awarded Best Practice in Care for Heart Failure Patients by the Rural Healthcare Quality Network in June.

“Stepping in to handle an emergency is what Klickitat Valley Health does best,” explained John White, CEO. As a Critical Access Level IV Trauma-certified hospital, KVH offers essential diagnostic capabilities and provides critical care related to trauma. Emergency patients are evaluated, stabilized, and if the situation demands, transported quickly to a facility that specializes in the type of trauma they are experiencing.

“Specialized skills acquired by KVH staff are continually enhanced with hospital-wide practice drills and ongoing education such as the recent Emergency Preparedness Exercise this past April,” White said. “This diversification of skill means that KVH can handle most any emergency that comes through the door.”

White emphasized, “Education is a key element to handling an emergency, but providing emergency specialists with the best equipment available follows closely. A great example is the glidescope that was recently purchased with trauma grant funds. This tool provides a quick and efficient way to intubate patients that are struggling or unable to breathe.”
