Montanye award highlights another heated meeting

SIXTEEN YEARS OF SERVICE: Mike Montanye receives a plaque commemorating his 16 years on the Goldendale City Council Tuesday morning from Connie Byers. The original presentation was at Monday’s city council meeting by Mayor Clint Baze. Montanye, who recently turned 80, was on Goldendale’s first city council and served with mayors Mark Sigfrinius and Arletta Parton.

Following a heated city council meeting on Aug. 6 and after two meetings of committees formed to address issues, Goldendale city council member Lucille Bevis delivered a sharp scolding to the mayor and city council at its meeting Monday evening.

Bevis said constituents had been commenting to her recently, particularly since the Aug. 6 city council meeting at which Greater Goldendale Chamber of Commerce president Tom Ireland stated that Mayor Clint Baze had verbally attacked the Chamber in a prior meeting. At the end of the council meeting, two committees were formed, one for the city council and one for the Chamber, to try to reach resolution of differences. Since then, a joint committee...
