Award Winning Entry: Brothers Gary (right) and Bob Baker of Goldendale won the Bluebird Award at the Bickleton Car Show on Saturday, Sept. 1. They received a trophy, sponsored by the Whoop and Holler Museum, and a basket of goodies, provided by the Blue Bird Committee. Their vehicle was a 1950 Dodge pickup, which they restored to original mechanical condition (breaking only two bolts in the process). They are raffling this truck off to benefit The American Legion. Tickets are $20 each. The truck can be seen and tickets bought at the American Legion.

Lawrence and I decided to celebrate our 65th anniversary on Labor Day Weekend instead of waiting until Christmas Eve. All our descendants showed up, decorated the yard for Christmas and spent three days with us. We found “Christmas presents” for everyone in the attic. All the grandchildren were here short two spouses and all the great-grandchildren including the new three-month old from Loon Lake. We are keeping the decorations up for a few weeks to just enjoy.

Bickleton’s community water system project took giant steps forward this summer. In August, Bickleton was granted a water right permit. In addition, the USDA offered a very generous funding package to keep rates affordable.

Now the future of the project rests in the hands of the residents and landowners of Bickleton. Formal connection agreements will be available this month from Community Council Board members. If you plan to connect, it is time to commit. The water system will be built if there are sufficient connection commitments.

A community meeting will be held at Alder Creek Grange on Thursday, Sept. 27, at 6:30 p.m. John Grim, project engineer, and PUD representatives Ron Ihrig and Tim Furlong will be on hand to answer questions. Coffee, cookies and connection forms will be provided.

Please plan to attend this important meeting.
