City schools facing government-directed curriculum changes

STATE OF THE SCHOOLS: Mark Heid discusses changes in the Goldendale School District Thursday at the Greater Goldendale Chamber of Commerce business lunch at Gee’s Restaurant.

The education landscape is being changed again by governmental agencies, Mark Heid says, and the changes are going to affect Goldendale.

Some Goldendale school test scores also dramatically improved over the last year.

Heid, Superintendent of the Goldendale School District, made his comments at the Greater Goldendale Chamber of Commerce business lunch Thursday at Gee’s Restaurant.

“Washington State got a waiver from the federal government this year,” Heid said. “That was for the ‘No Child Left Behind’ program that we were working on before. That program said we were supposed to have 100 percent of the kids to 100 percent [reading proficiency] by 2014. Everyone I’ve talked to...
