Clinton and Roberts score high in big meet at Pasco

 


Peter Clinton’s 18 minute, 33 second run in the 5k was good enough for third place against a large field of Eastern Washington runners at the cross country meet in Pasco on Saturday. Eighty-eight runners participated in the race with 548 high school runners across all divisions. The Bickleton senior placed third at Pasco last year in the two-mile event. His teammate, Josh Cummings finished in a time of 24:13.8.

Goldendale had three entries in the race with Will Bowdish leading the way in a time of 20:04.7. Matthew Blomquist finished in 21:36.7 and Michael Blomquist crossed in 21:46.5.

Another Pirate, Troy Roberts finished ninth among 123 runners in the freshman/sophomore junior varsity division in a time of 19:34.8. Three other Pirates posted respectable times with Joey Cardenas finishing in 21:07.1, Andrew Gannon 21:14.8 and Kane Lowe 21:34.9. Goldendale’s Drew Bowdish crossed the line in 21:32.9, followed by David Gunkel in 21:39.2 and Will White in 23:33.

Goldendale had one entry in the girls’ 5k with Kalle Cyrus running a 30:10.9.

Goldendale runners also participated in a big meet at Connell the previous Saturday along with runners from 19 schools from class 1A through 4A.

Will Bowdish again led the Timberwolves among the 5k varsity runners with a 19:23.8, placing 60th out of 144 runners. Gunkel finished in 20:47.6, Drew Bowdish in 20:54.3, Matthew Blomquist in 20:58.6 and Michael Blomquist in 21:51.9.

Natalie Hurst ran the varsity 5k for the girls in a time of 26:21.8. Cyrus ran a 27:57.4 in the JV 5k. Malisa Barrier and Kari Furlong ran in the 1.95 mile event in times of 17:34.4 and 19:26.4, respectively. Freshmen Will White and Daniel Bravo ran the JV 5k in 23:46.9 and 24:01.6.

Lyle-Wishram

With football on the sidelines at Lyle-Wishram this year, four former players competed in the Bridgitte Nelson invitational cross country meet at Sorosis Park in The Dalles. Jonathan VonAhn was 37th in the varsity 5k in 21:59. Chris Stohler ran a 23:04, Chance Carpenter a 25:04, and Jacob Ziegler finished in 26:21.
