To the Editor:

A whole guest commentary column telling us about gas taxes and not a word about how the tax money is used?

The writer thinks, or pretends to think, that the gas tax is “government profit.” Perhaps he also thinks it is used to buy yachts and fourth homes for highly paid government employees such as mail carriers, teachers, and state police.

Well, I did a little research to complete his story. The fact is that 100 percent of the tax is used to build and maintain roads, bridges, signal lights, for policing, and for purchasing of rights of way. A small percentage goes to mass transit (cheaper in the long run than more roads?). Where should the money for this come from if n...
