Feb. 6: 1778—France formally recognizes the U.S. with the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Commerce and the Treaty of Alliance in Paris. 1933—The 20th Constitutional Amendment is adopted so the date for the president’s inauguration is to be held on Jan. 20 when the weather is really cold. 1987—Sonny Bono declares he is running for mayor of Palm Springs. 2018—Sen. Clay Mason (R-N & SD) becomes the last politician to actually ask a question at an investigative hearing. Born: Ronald Reagan (1911). Died: Amos Muzyad Yakhoob Kairouz a/k/a Danny Thomas (1991).
