Maryhill couple drove over miles, months, and mountains

BUSY VOLUNTEERS: Harold and Eunice Bickel of Maryhill recently retired from the Klickitat County Senior Services’ medical transportation program after thousands of miles and hundreds of hours of service over five years.

For 52 years, best friends and spouses Eunice and Harold Bickel of Maryhill were busy enough. They raised their four kids to adulthood while each juggled a career of their own; the couple had hobbies, traveled some, and just enjoyed day-in and day-out life. After a period of retirement, being retired wasn’t enough for the industrious couple, so five years ago they decided to follow a church friend’s suggestion and become medical transportation volunteers through the Klickitat County Senior Services Department.
