Short-handed fire department puts out call for volunteers

The Goldendale Fire Department is making an appeal for more volunteers to join the department. According to Public Safety Director, Rick Johnson, the department is dangerously low in numbers of volunteers with about 20 active members. The seriousness of the need was brought to attention two weekends ago when a weekend call went out and only one person was able to respond after the third call. It isn’t the first time the department has been seriously short handed, says Johnson. It is more than just a safety issue, as it could hit residents in the pocket book, if the situation gets worse, as insurance ratings depend on having an active department capable of answering the calls.
