Don't lose the music program

To the Editor:

Recently I heard we may be losing Barb Stout, our music teacher at Goldendale Primary School, thus losing our music program. As a parent of two young children, I say, how sad!

I got to sit in and participated in her music class this past winter with my son, and I observed every one of her students fully engaged and enjoying themselves. Even those that I know to be very shy had no problem participating.

Some studies suggest that music increases a child’s cognitive skills, such as spatial reasoning and memory. It also helps in reading and math, focusing, and it’s great for their self-esteem.

I remember learning from grade school songs. How about the “ABC Song” or “F...
