Legion holds second annual Box Canyon Shootout

SHOOTOUT: A competitor takes aim in Sunday’s pistol competition.

The second annual American Legion Box Canyon Shootout took advantage of great weather and a great vista, high up Box Canyon Road for two days of lively competition last weekend. Forty-three shooters competed in men’s, women’s and youth classes for small and big bore rifles, pistols and black powder target shooting.

The winners were: Zane Kerns, men’s 200 yard small bore; Scott Dollarhyde, men’s 200 yard big bore; Lee Cacy and Dollarhyde tied in men’s 400 yard big bore; Cacy, men’s 400 yard small bore; Marie Holter, women’s 200 yard big bore; Holter, women’s 200 yard small bore; Barbara Isler, women’s 400 yard big bore; Doug Herlihy, men’s 600 yard open; Patrick Thomas Marx, youth 200 yard big bore; Zack Scull, youth 200 yard small bore; Christopher Trunkey, youth 400 yard big bore; Andrew Kerns, open pistol; Trampas Fahlenkamp, iron sight; Justin Steen, black powder; and Leroy Miller, rimfire.

The event was hosted by Jerry Bean at his ranch about 18 miles northeast of Goldendale. The event is a fund raiser for the Goldendale American Legion.
