Youth triathlon a prelude to Golden Man Triathlon

FAST TIME: Jairus Christensen posted the best time in the youth triathlon event in Goldendale last Saturday. Christensen was one of 46 entries in the event for ages 14 and under. Christensen swam 100 yards, rode a bicycle 2.5 miles and ran half a mile in 14 minutes, 58 seconds.

Jairus Christensen turned in the best time in Saturday’s youth triathlon, completing the long course in 14-minutes, 58-seconds, nearly two minutes ahead of runner-up McKay Knowlton (16.42). The event, held in Goldendale was kind of a tune-up for youth competitors who may compete in the second annual Golden Man Triathlon scheduled for Sept. 21.

Forty-seven participants from age five to 14 competed in the event which began at the Central Klickitat County Park and Recreation District swimming pool in Goldendale. There were long and short triathlon courses and long and short duathlon courses for the youngest competitors.
