Postal Service still searching for savings

According to Goldendale Postmaster Jim Hamilton, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) tried to change from six delivery days to five delivery days but rescinded their proposal. Congress dictated there had to be six delivery days, so the service is looking for different ways to save money. (The USPS continues to lose between $1.6 and $1.9 billion every year.)

The USPS did find a possible solution in the form of a pre-funding savings account that is in place to pay for the medical costs of retirees. If Congress allows the service to stop paying into the fund or pay a smaller amount, it would be able to break even. The account has approximately $60 billion in it.
