After 32 years of bringing visitors close up and personal with the mysteries of the skies, Steve Stout is leaving the Goldendale Observatory.

Stout was honored Thursday, June 27, at the Greater Goldendale Chamber of Commerce business forum lunch at the Glass Onion. There, he was recognized as a "fixture" at the Observatory he served for so long. Parks Manager Lem Pratt presented Stout with a commemorative plaque.

Stout, whose last full day is Friday, June 28, spoke of how he came to the position at the Observatory in 1981 and his history at the park, sometimes choking up with deep emotion.

A full story on Stout's retirement and history will appear in next week's Sentinel.
