EMS levy still gets many questions and common misconceptions

 


Voting ballots have been mailed and voting is underway for the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) District, with mail-in ballots due for the primary election by Aug. 6. The EMS District vote is for a six-year tax levy to support ambulance service in Klickitat County, including Goldendale.

The tax levy is $0.30 per $1,000 of property valuation, or $30 per year for a home that is valued at $100,000. Levy proceeds are anticipated at $875,000 county-wide per year over the six-year levy term. Senior citizen and disabled persons exemptions for the levy apply.

In order to pass, voters must approve the levy with a super majority. A super majority means that at least 60 percent of turn-out voters...
