Schillings Road fire about 70 percent contained

Klickitat County Emergency Management (KCEM) received a call of a fire near Schillings Road in central Klickitat County at 8:30 am this morning. Local volunteer firemen responded, as well as crews from Washington State Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Forest Service.

As of this time the fire is approximately five acres in size and 70 percent contained. One structure was destroyed, and there have been no reported injuries. The cause has been determined to be of human origin and is still under investigation by DNR Investigators.

As a result of quick response by local volunteers, the fire was contained to a minimum size, but the fire danger in the county continue to be extreme. KCEM warns residents to take precaution at all times to prevent fires.
