Scouts cycle through Lyle for cancer center

CROSS COUNTRY BIKERS: Chapel Hill Boy Scout Troop 845 stopped for a break in Lyle on Aug. 11. The group was on a 67 day bicycle ride from Maryland to Seaside, Ore., raising funds for a cancer treatment center in Chapel Hill, N.C.

On Sunday Aug. 11, a dozen young men came bicycling into Lyle. They are representing the Boy Scouts from Chapel Hill, North Carolina Troop 845. These young men are on a mission that started at Chesapeake Bay near Havre de Grace, Maryland on June 10. They expected to reach their destination of the beaches of Seaside, Ore. on Aug. 15.

Upon seeing the park in Lyle they decided to camp for the night on the cool grass and use the pavilion for cover if needed. They dined at the Corner Pocket and the OLESS opened the doors of the Activity Center for them to use the restrooms and sinks for clean up.

They have covered an average of 65 miles a day, with the head winds a prominent factor. They each...
