World War II rages again on fields near Goldendale

ON THE EASTERN FRONT: At the recent World War II reenactment near Goldendale, participants posed as members of the AG44 Deutschland Regiment.

This is part two of Jim Fisher’s story of participating in a World War II reenactment gathering recently near Goldendale. Part one ran in last week’s Sentinel.

Small groups begin to form as canteens are topped off, ammo magazines and pouches filled, armaments oiled and test-fired. Enthusiastic talks focus on the finer merits of certain weapons and the shortfalls of others, and jokes that are funny only to those with a deep understanding of Soviet history are told in Russian, in accents ranging from beginner to fluent. Authentic surplus gear is compared, traded, and admired.
