County runners to compete in Goldendale, Thursday

SCENIC RUN: Lyle-Wishram and Columbia-White Salmon represented Klickitat County in the annual Bridgette Nelson Memorial invitational cross country meet at The Dalles. The event is run through scenic Sorosis Park. Above, center is Marissa Lacock, of Lyle-Wishram’s Cougars at the start of the 5,000 meter race.

Cross country runners from Goldendale and Lyle-Wishram were in action last week, a couple hundred miles apart.

Goldendale took part in a large meet at Connell on Saturday. Top finisher for Goldendale was Natalie Hurst, who was 62nd in the varsity girls 5,000 meters. Hurst ran the race in a time of 25:17.3. Qi Cathy Kan, of Goldendale finished in 26:50.9.

Michael Jagelski was tops among the Goldendale boys with a time of 20:05.5, which put him in 83rd place. David Gunkel ran the race in 21:06.1, Matthew Blomquist ran 21:38.6, Michael Blomquist ran 22:01.1, and Drew Bowdish finished in 22:14.1 in the varsity race.
