Federal disaster relief available for county farmers and ranchers

 


A recent federal disaster designation for many Oregon counties has triggered federal disaster relief for farmers and ranchers in neighboring Klickitat and Benton counties.

“Last spring, 11 counties in Oregon experienced freezing temperatures. Excessive rains also damaged crops in Wasco County. Crop damage from those freezing temperatures became apparent later at harvest,” said Virginia Amidon, Klickitat County Farm Service Agency Executive Director. “Weather systems extend beyond county lines and although crops in our county did not reach the loss level to trigger a disaster designation, farmers close to the Oregon border may have experienced losses.
