Wolves improve times in second meet at Ekone Park, prepare for Districts

Goldendale runners competed in a three-way cross country meet with SCAC opponents Zillah and Highland, last Thursday on a beautiful autumn day in Ekone Park. It was the final meet for the Timberwolves who will attempt to qualify for the State meet this Thursday at Apple Ridge, outside Cowiche. Last week's race was the second time in three weeks that the runners were able to compete on their home turf.

Top runner for the Goldendale boys was David Gunkel, who placed 10th in 19 minutes and 56 seconds, which was 23 seconds better than his last race on the course. But, the biggest gain was logged by Ricky Shurtleff who knocked more than a minute off his time, good enough for 17th place in 21:2...
