Vandals a win short of trophy round at State

STATE: Klickitat made their 15th appearance at the State volleyball tournament last weekend. Tamaira Huffsmith watches as KyAnn Kessinger, left returns the ball against Pomeroy.

Klickitat hit a rocky road in their opening match at State on Friday. The Vandals went down in straight sets 25-10, 25-16, 25-17 to Pomeroy. Much of the problem for Klickitat was lack of hitting and too many unforced errors.

The teams weren't as far apart as the scores suggest. Klickitat failed to get enough shots from their big hitter, Tamaira Huffsmith in the first two games. Huffsmith was a force at the net with four blocks in game two, but only one kill. The Vandals had five service errors in the game that added to their woes.

Huffsmith got on track in game three with five kills and a pair of blocks, but Klickitat had 14 errors.
