DNR cost share to help forest health

Letters went out to landowners in Klickitat and Yakima Counties, encouraging use of cost share funds to improve forest health. Thinning stands to improve resistance to insect and disease damage and reduce the fire hazard are goals of the program.

The process begins with a contact to DNR for site evaluation. A treatment prescription with estimated cost per acre is provided. Work can be done by the owner or hired contractor. Work should be completed by May 2015.

Contact Dan Lennon at 773-5588 for the Goldendale area or Jess Calkins at Husum, 493-3218, ext. 223.
