Police: vehicle prowls are on the rise

Goldendale Police have noticed an up-tick in vehicle prowls with a different twist, lately. Prowlers have been going through glove compartments and stealing documents, including registration and insurance cards. In one recent case, the vehicle title was also taken.

Police warn people to keep cars locked, even if you think there is nothing of value to be taken. Identity documents are sold to people who use them for identity theft, according to the police.

In each case of vehicle prowl, officers report that the vehicle has been left unlocked. “I have only seen two times where someone has broken a window to prowl a locked car,” says Officer Mike Smith. “Locked doors will deter prowlers.”

It is also not required and not recommended to keep the vehicle title in a car. Lock titles away in a secure place with other important documents.
