50 Years Ago – March 5, 1964

• Joe Crowe, 65, of Goldendale, former Klickitat County Commissioner, escaped with his life intact and with no reportable injury last Sunday afternoon, when his 1945 Studebaker truck went off the Leidl grade northwest of Goldendale. His brakes failed going down the grade, he attempted to change into a lower gear, but lost his gear box connection in neutral. Seeing the machine was picking up speed and would run off the outside of the grade, Crowe bailed out. The truck and its load went far down the slope, and was a total loss.
