Fire breaks out in Goldendale garage

Firefighers work on putting out the fire at Phil Davis' garage on NW 2nd Street Wednesday/

A fire broke out Wednesday, March 5, at about 2:45 p.m. in the garage of Phil Day on NW 2nd Street in Goldendale.

Dy lost about $30,000 worth of belongings in the garage, inside the house sustained smoke damage. Among the items in the garage was a new motorcycle.

Day and his wife and dog were unharmed.

Neighbors said they heard a loud boom at the garage around 2:45 p.m. One said she looked outside and saw flames. They speculated the boom was a car gas tank exploding.

A friend said Day was able to get one car out of the garage. The friend said he and another passerby had to keep Day from going back into the garage to retrieve more belongings.

Responders arrived on the scene within minutes....
