MaeLynn Luke spears a win at Ike

FRESH LEGS, FRESH TRACK: Bickleton students run sprint drills under the direction of assistant coach, Ross Ketchum on a sunny day last week. The Pirates are enjoying their new track which will be host to a Pirate Invitational on May 9 and the Greater Columbia Gorge League championships on May 16.

MaeLynn Luke couldn't have started better as she won the javelin in the first meet of the year. Luke, a sophomore for Lyle-Wishram, threw the javelin 97 feet, 11 inches, edging Kittitas's Emma Holden by two inches for the title against a strong field.

Several Klickitat county schools dove into the 2014 track and field last weekend at the Eisenhower Jamboree at Zaepfel stadium in Yakima and javelin seemed to be the strength of Klickitat County. In addition to Luke's winning throw, teammate Ellie Smith placed fourth with a toss of 89 feet. On the boys' side of the event, Cougar competitors Jacob Ziegler and Gabe Montoya finished fifth and seventh, respectively. Ziegler had a toss of 143-2 a...
