Where are the people and things that were once beloved?

The age of beloved things and people is mostly past. And we dearly need to bring it back.

You may be old enough to recall when we had beloved entertainers. But today where are the likes of Jimmy Stewart, Bob Hope, John Wayne, Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong, to mention only a few? Where are the beloved major newspapers, once a dozen or so around the country? Today that list is maybe just The New York Times, at least still revered by many. Where are the beloved films, the likes of Mrs. Miniver, for example, that galvanized whole nations into a teary-eyed sense of purpose?

Lest one think this is yet another maudlin, tired trip into nostalgia as has been done so often in various media, let it b...
