Local teachers help keep Washington No. 1 in national certification

Certified: Three Goldendale teachers were recognized by Delta Kappa Gamma for receiving/renewing their board certification. Washington State is No. 1 in the nation this year with 516 new National Board Certified Teachers, bringing the state total to 7,333 nationally certified.

Certification takes one to three years and is not guaranteed.  It is a rigorous, robust, and time consuming 400 hour process.  The national rate of certification is around 40 percent for those who go through the voluntary assessment program.  Candidates put together a detailed work portfolio, including videos of their teaching, and participate in a six question testing assessment.
