New chess exhibit opens at Maryhill Museum

Let's Play! Chess sets of "cardboard, clay and crayons" are part of the new exhibit at Maryhill Museum, set to open this weekend. The event features a huge chess set that visitors can actually play. Organized activities begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3. Maryhill Museum is located off Highway 97, 12 miles south of Goldendale. Call 773-3733 for more information.

On Saturday, May 3, Maryhill Museum will be celebrating the opening of the exhibit, "Cardboard, Clay and Crayons: Chess Sets by Young Northwest Artists." The exhibit will be open for viewing beginning May 1, and running through July 31.

Here is a list of events planned for Saturday, May 3:

Oversize Chess, 1 p.m.

Play a game of chess with Maryhill's oversized chess set! Created and donated by Mr. Michael Connell, the set is a gargantuan reproduction of the famous Lewis chess set.

Lecture: The World of Chess, 2 p.m.
