100 meter showdown approaches

Briley Cameron keeps inching closer to Zillah’s Riley Olney in the 100 meters. It is one of the more exciting battles in track and field this year and it is reminiscent of last year’s battle between Cameron and Isaac Messenger for fast man honors on Goldendale’s team. Cameron lagged in the early going, but finally beat Messenger and went on to compete at State.

Last week in a meet at Cowiche, Olney ran an 11.80 and Cameron was second in 11.81. The top four runners in 1A are within 0.1-second of each other. The Olney-Cameron battle continues this Friday at the Ron Vanderholm meet in Royal City.

Other key performances for Goldendale at Cowiche was a win by Brian Golding in the 300 meter hurdles. Golding also was second in the 110 meter hurdles and has had some good battles this year, including against teammate Jordan Brokaw, who was third in both races at Cowiche.

Cameron was second in the 200 meters, as was Ocean Bryan for the girls’ team. Both 4x100 meter relays placed second.

Kenner Milliren was third in the long jump and Demetrius McCoy was third in the 800 meters.
