Wilma Green

Wilma Green

Wilma Dean Farthing was born in Kansas, November 12, 1931 to Clarence and Lottie (Hedworth) Farthing, the second of three daughters between Phyllis and Virginia.

Wilma attended schools in Kansas and Wapato, Washington where she met her lifelong friends and future husband, Billey Green.

After high school graduation, Wilma moved back to El Dorado, Kansas with her family. To Clarence's dismay, Bill drove to Kansas with three spare tires tied to the roof of his car to ask for her hand in marriage. They were married August 17, 1950, and moved back to the Yakima valley, where they had three children, Deena, Ed, and Melissa.

In 1969, the family moved to Goldendale where they owned and operated A&W on old highway 97. In 1978, they built B&W on highway 97, and operated it until their retirement in 1999.

After their retirement, Wilma and Bill moved to Checotah, Oklahoma to be closer to her sisters, and they bought a small farm to raise horses. They moved back to Goldendale in 2001.

Wilma enjoyed quarter horse racing, attending her grandchildren's ballgames and track meets, flower gardening, home decorating, watching any kind of sporting event, and quilting. Over the years, she made hundreds of quilts, many of which she gave to the Klickitat County WIC program for the new babies. She and Bill celebrated 53 years of marriage.

She passed away peacefully September 17, 2014 surrounded by love, safely in her family's arms.

Wilma was preceded in passing by her husband Bill, and grandson Buck. She is survived by her sisters Phyllis O'Brien and Virginia Moore, children Deena Amidon (Karl), Ed Green (Christy), and Melissa Hunziker, grandchildren Pace Amidon, Kadee Amidon Herrington, Devon Amidon Jenkins, Ashley Green Olson, Tyler Hunziker, and Billey Dean Hunziker, and 5 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be September 27, 11am at Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel in Goldendale.
